'EVOLUTIONAL' - STRING QUARTET NO 2
During the creation of this piece an idea evolved: could life changing individual human experiences also be ‘evolutional’ in a wider cultural, historical and societal context? For instance, when composing I often reference music that has been around for hundreds of years, from traditions that date back millennia. It is fascinating to wonder how this music may have played a role in shaping us over time. How musical ideas, created by unknown musicians centuries ago, have had a profound effect on what we think of as music today.
This composition was completed with the kind patronage of the best selling author Alexander McCall Smith.

'THE GOLDEN ROAD SUITE' - STRING QUARTET NO 1
The third movement - 'Bittersweet Journey' - was actually written first, as a commission in 2012, for the String Quartet Plus festival (SQ Plus), held in the historic St Bartholomew's the Great. Two more movements followed - 'The Golden Road' and 'Landscape of Souls' - and since it's completion, the Suite has been performed at festivals, concerts and events all over the UK for the last 5 years. It was finally recorded and released in May 2017 by my long time collaborators Modulus Quartet on their debut album '12 Seconds of Light'.
